For this Christ the King Sunday, when the King returns, we might be surprised by what he asks.

(Read Matthew 25: 31-46)

When Jesus returns, there is no mention of a rapture, or a pearly gate.

There is simply the King gathering everyone and the issue is one thing, and one thing only.

Did you feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give a drink to the thirsty, visit the sick and in prison? There is no question of doctrine.  There is no concern about political, ethnic, specific religious affiliation, nor national citizenship.

It isn't a question of if you "found" Jesus in a prayer, religious experience or moment of enlightenment, or natural wonder.  Jesus isn't asking if you made a "decision" for him or declared him your Lord.

He will simply see if you find Jesus in your neighbor, specifically "the least of these" and DID something about it? Did you respond with compassion, love, support, and care- as Jesus did when he found you?

Did you extend the grace given you, or not? And why not?

Was it because we didn't notice, didn't look, or disqualified the "least" because of some man-made excuse?  That for some reason they didn't "deserve" grace because we said so?

The King is coming! And he is already here, in our neighbor, watching us and wondering, will we share grace?
