Peace - Advent IIWe continue in our Advent journey. Last week the re-occurring theme was hope: the belief that things will get better. Of course, from a faith point of view, our hope is grounded in the promises of God. The stories of faith we read and hear about over the course of our lives state this truth: BECAUSE God has acted on behalf of God’s people in the past, so too will God act in our own lives. There’s both the trust that God can be relied on, and the hope in the promise. This week’s Advent theme is peace. In society we sometimes say that nations are at “peace,” meaning that there is no war between certain peoples. Or, the wayward child doesn’t have his or her hands wrapped around the parent’s neck, so there must be “peace” in that home... |

Congrats to James Higgs!Dr. James Higgs has been named the winner of the 2024 Julius Herford Dissertation Prize for his Doctoral document "Terza Messa by Marianna Martines: Significance, Style, and Critical Edition." This award is granted by the American Choral Directors Association for the outstanding terminal research project in choral music. Dr. Higgs was nominated by Dr. Elizabeth Schauer, chair of his dissertation committee, and Dr. Lori Wiest, director of the School of Music. Dr. John Brobeck and Dr. Jay Rosenblatt also served on his dissertation committee. Congratulations on this signal achievement, Dr. Higgs! |

Upcoming EventsSunday, Dec. 7—Bible Study after worship. We gather in the Conference Room to continue our study of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. We are finishing up Exodus. The class will continue through December, with a break on Dec. 14 and 28. Sunday, Dec. 7—Team meeting for Happy Birthday, Jesus Kid’s camp in the Luther room after worship. Tuesday, Dec. 9—Women’s Bible Study at 9:30am in the Werner Hall. All women of any age are invited to join this group. Come enjoy new friends, a snack and a Bible study. Join us for Board games (not “bored” games!) of all types will delight and bond us together! Thursday, Dec. 11—Primetimer’s Luncheon at 12:30pm. Everyone is invited to join us for Turkey soup & sandwiches, & fellowship. Please sign up to provide your favorite dessert. Bring a new friend, we welcome everyone.
