Praying-A poem by Mary OliverLetter from Pastor Jeff This week here is a poem by Mary Oliver for us to reflect on. "Praying" which I cherish when I find myself in spiritual paralysis. "Praying" It doesn't have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don't try to make them elaborate, this isn't a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak ("Praying" is a celebrated poem by Mary Oliver, first published in her 2006 collection Thirst.) May your new voice speak now amidst your silence. And may each of us affirm the gift of our lives as we celebrate yours. Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? |
