Walk as children of lightLetter from Pastor Jeff This week’s gospel and New Testament lesson speak about blindness. In the gospel, we have a man born blind from birth receiving his sight while Paul’s letter to the Ephesians implores us to walk as children of light. During Lent each of us could benefit from contemplating our own blindness and how God gives us true sight. Here is a poem from John Milton titled: “When I Consider How My Light Is Spent”

Upcoming EventsClick on the blue underlined event to read more Sunday—Noisy Offering during worship. The children will be passing coffee cans around for you to place loose change and help support the Cup of Cold Water Ministry. Jingle-Jangle! Sunday—Manna Bag Assembly in Werner Hall after worship, come join the assembly line to create Manna Bags and then take some with you to keep in your car to hand out to those in need. Sundays—Bible Study after worship. We gather in the Conference Room to continue our study of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. Led by Pastor Richard Mauthe. Sunday, March 15—Community Concert at 2pm. You are invited to a free community concert of music for cello and piano by Duo Ihana. This exciting program (approx 60 min) of works by Igor Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc, Mel Bonis, and Cecile Chaminade will be performed by pianist Dr. Rie Tanaka and cellist Jesse Nummelin. Tuesdays in Lent—Ponder with a Pastor at 11am in the Luther Room. Lenten devotion & discussion. Tuesday, March 17—Create Bags for Foster Kids at 9am in Werner Hall. Come help make tote bags for Arizona children in foster care through AVIVA Child services. Heavy cotton twill, drapery fabric or light weight denim works well to create the bags. We are using 1 yard of 60" fabric, or half a yard 18" x 44" fabric for these bags. We have directions and extra sewing machines on hand, or ladies can bring their own. Most supplies needed are already on hand. Friday, March 20—Blankets of Comfort, please join us in Werner Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Learn how to cut fleece blankets and match with yarn to make blanket kits. There will be toys to stuff, too. We welcome your hands to do God's work. The blankets are donated to children at Tucson Medical Center and Northwest Women's Center and Youth on Their Own. Join us during Holy WeekClick on the blue underlined event to read more On Maundy Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 pm, our worship team will present a musical drama, “God So Loved.” Beautiful choir music and newly composed dramatic monologues for seven followers of Jesus will convey the message of God's transformative love and mercy. Holy Communion will be included during the musical. Life and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday, April 3 at 7pm. Join us for a Tenebrae worship service reminding us of the passion of Christ. Join us on Saturday, April 4 at 9am to decorate the sanctuary for Easter Sunday. Resurrection of Our Lord: Easter Day, April 5 at 8am and 10am. This is the day the Lord has made! Christ is risen, and through him all creation is made new! Join us at 9am for Easter breakfast in Werner Hall.
We invite you to help celebrate the rising of Christ by ordering a beautiful Cross Luminary bag that will adorn the altar area for Easter Sunday. Luminary bags are available for $5.00 each and may be dedicated In Honor Of or In Memory Of someone special. Pink forms are in the gathering area or in your bulletin. FLIM Golf Classic—Monday, March 30 at the Oro Valley Country Club. Grab a group of friends and sign up as a team! Registration forms are on the website and the table in the gathering area. This is the 27th year for Fund for Leaders In Mission (FLIM). It provides scholarships to seminary students pursuing rostered ministry (pastor or deacon) within the ELCA, aiming to reduce/eliminate student debt. There is a $5.00 reduction in registration price if your entry form is postmarked before March 16th. TIHAN (Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network) CarePackages—BSLCA is helping sponsor the POZ café luncheon in April by collecting: 63 bottles of liquid hand soap, 84 cans of shaving cream, 221 disposable hand razors, and at least 1 more gift cards for $15.00 each, from either Walmart, Target, or Fry's, plus $400 cash that goes towards the cost of the meal that will be served that day.
