Life as a follower of Jesus Christ

Life as a follower of Jesus Christ

Letter from Pastor Annemarie

“Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?”

Will You Come and Follow Me
ELW hymn number 798, words by John L. Bell

In our Sunday gospel readings in worship, we’ve been hearing Jesus call the disciples to follow. And now, as the Book of Matthew progresses, we’ll be hearing from Jesus examples of what that looks like. Time and again over the course of September and October, our Sunday scriptures will paint pictures of life as a follower of Jesus Christ. Snapshots of following the Way....

Starting now and going through October, I invite you to notice as you go throughout your day, your average afternoons, your ordinary evenings:

In what way am I following Christ? What specific action or choice to refrain from an action? What mindset?...

When and where did I notice someone else following in Christ’s Way? What were they doing or not doing?....

Then, would you join me in doing one or both of these things...

Notes on Sunday's Music

This Sunday we start the Autumn season of Pentecost with new liturgy and songs.  The very first hymn “Come Away from Rush and Hurry” invites us away from life’s frenzied pace into the stillness of God’s peace.  The familiar tune with new lyrics will allow us to slow down, seek God’s face, and leave our burdens, confusions, fears, and pain at the cross of Jesus.

The communion hymns are new also, but very singable with words packed with meaning and particularly chosen to coincide with Pastor Annemarie’s messages about following Jesus.  One of the hymns, “Lord Jesus, You Shall Be My Song,” was originally written by the whole community of Les Petites Soeurs de Jesus, part of the L’Arche community that provides for people with and without intellectual disabilities to live together. Just like those folks, we, here at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, can find strength in our togetherness!  With Jesus as our primary focus, as the song says, “with all of the family you saved by your love, we’ll sing to your dawn at the end of our journey.”

Sunday Worship

Sunday Worship

9am in person and livestreamed - Sunday, September 6, 2026

Welcome into our community today as we seek to follow the one who gathers us.
May you feel a connection to the beautiful Savior in worship this day! May you join us in Living in Grace, Love and Action.

We gather in the unity of Christ and are all invited to the Lord’s Table. He is the host —we are all guests. We celebrate that Jesus came to us and continues to come to us.  In faith we receive the body and blood of our Lord and Savior. We believe that he did this “for you.” We welcome ALL to Communion for it is the Lord’s Table and Jesus’s gift of grace to the world.

Join us in-person, on Facebook Live at Beautifulsaviortucson, and on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88641186563   Meeting ID: 886 4118 6563 and Passcode: 188820
